Takealot and Pick n Pay Expand Pickup Points to 36 Locations Nationwide

In a move set to reshape the local retail landscape, Takealot and Pick n Pay are significantly expanding their collaboration, rolling out more convenient pickup points in Pick n Pay supermarkets across the country. This initiative allows a growing number of South Africans to seamlessly collect their online orders while doing their weekly grocery shopping.

The partnership, which began as a small pilot with just two locations in 2023, has rapidly grown to 30 Takealot pickup points in Pick n Pay stores. Driven by strong customer demand, plans are already underway to expand to 36 locations by the end of 2025, reaching customers from major city centers to smaller towns.

The convenience of the service has resonated with shoppers. Between February and May of this year, monthly collections at the Pick n Pay-based pickup points doubled, now processing over 14,000 collections per month. To date, more than 45,000 unique customers have utilized the service, embracing the ease of collecting their parcels without having to wait for a home delivery.

"You don’t have to wait at home for a delivery or go out of your way. Simply collect your order when it suits you. That’s the kind of practical convenience South Africans want,” said Karla Levick, chief marketing officer at Takealot.

Customers simply select a participating Pick n Pay store during checkout on Takealot, wait for a collection notification, and then visit the store's customer service kiosk to collect their order during regular trading hours. While most items qualify, bulkier goods are excluded from the service. Interestingly, health and wellness products—such as vitamins, skincare, and women’s health items—are among the most popular products being collected, reflecting the shopping habits of Pick n Pay's customer base.

For Pick n Pay, this collaboration is part of a broader strategy to evolve its stores into community hubs. "We’re seeing our stores evolve into hubs where customers can do more than just shop for fresh foods, groceries, and general merchandise,” said Katherine Madley, chief marketing officer at Pick n Pay. “Whether it's buying airtime from Pick n Pay Mobile, settling a bill, or collecting an online order, we're helping customers tick more things off their to-do lists in one stop."

This collaboration between two of South Africa's leading retail brands is a direct response to customer needs, offering a retail experience that is simple, local, and perfectly integrated into real-life routines.
