These are the new features being added to Facebook
CAPE TOWN - At Facebook's annual developer conference which happened in California, chief executive Mark Zuckerburg announced that for the social platform's redesign, it wants to focus on Groups.
The company stated that many of the new features being released will put Groups at the centre so that it can be simpler, faster, and more community-focused.
New features such as a new Group discovery tool, better integration with Facebook Watch, the Gaming tab, and Group focuses will be added.
The company also plans to expand its Facebook Dating platform to 14 new countries, However, South Africa was not mentioned.
For the dating app, it has added a “Secret Crush” feature will allow users to select up to nine of their friends they express interest in.
The feature will then send the user a notification stating that someone has a crush on them, and will be matched with them if they add the other user as a Secret Crush in return.
Facebook has also built a Meet New Friends feature to facilitate the offline interaction of users.
It also added a Marketplace shipping functionality to help facilitate the delivery of items.
The new version of Facebook will also feature a redesigned Events tab which makes it easier to coordinate with friends to make plans.
Facebook added that the new updates will show immediately on the app and the new desktop site will come in the next few months.
