Facebook launches payment system called Facebook Pay
Social media giant Facebook announced that it has launched a new online payment system called Facebook Pay.
The aim of this new payment system is to create “a convenient, secure and consistent payment experience” across the company’s apps such as WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger and Facebook.
“Facebook Pay will make these transactions easier while continuing to ensure your payment information is secure and protected,” the company said on its blog.
Users will be able to set up their preferred online payment methods, view their transaction history and update their information through Facebook Pay.
Additionally, users will be able to manage which apps have access to their Facebook Pay information as well.
According to the company, Facebook Pay will first roll out in the United States on both Messenger and Facebook this week.
Facebook Pay supports most major credit and debit cards as well as PayPal. Payments are processed in partnership with companies like PayPal, Stripe and others around the world.
How It Works
Users can start using Facebook Pay on Facebook or Messenger with just a few taps:
- Go to “Settings” > “Facebook Pay” on the Facebook app or website
- Add a payment method
- The next time you make a payment, use Facebook Pay
Once Facebook Pay is available on WhatsApp and Instagram, you’ll be able to set it up directly within each app.
