Cape Union Mart brings Banff Mountain Film Festival to SA for 20 years

This year, South Africa's favourite outdoor adventure store, Cape Union Mart, brings the Banff Mountain Film Festival to South Africa for the 20th year.

Viewers will once again get the chance to explore and experience some of the world's most epic adventure sports, with a mix of riveting adventure films and cinematic styles that will both inspire and entertain.

The BANFF Centre Mountain Film Festival World Tour delivers the best mountain films and exceptional filmmaking talent from all over the world, which includes the winners of Cape Union Mart’s 2023 Adventure Film Challenge – Travellers With Cameras (Tiffany Pareen Brache and Roscoe Wayne Groenmeyer) who take this year’s prize for the Aspiring category, and Beyond The Outdoors (Bongani Ceba & Theodore Molebatsi), this year’s winner in the Professional category.

Odile Hufkie, Marketing Manager at Cape Union Mart, notes that besides being an inspiring event for fellow outdoor and travel lovers, this annual event is an ideal opportunity to shine a light on South African film-making talent.

“AFC was founded to showcase the best adventure talent South Africa has to offer from both aspiring and established filmmakers. It is always such a pleasure to witness the amazing talent we have in South Africa and support them as they work toward their goals.”

The winning entries will be shared as part of the exclusive screening. This year’s prizes are sponsored by Cape Union Mart, DJI, City Varsity and Red Bull – including outdoor gear, electronic equipment, a short learning programme and an unforgettable adventure experience.

"Thank you for providing this amazing opportunity for us. We feel honoured to win an award connected to such an amazing brand. It inspires us to continue our adventures, and share our stories to the world," said the team from Travellers with Cameras.

While the team from Beyond the Outdoors said, "We are very thrilled to win the competition because it’ll enable us to continue chasing adventure and taking others along with us!".

The public will also get the chance to explore and experience some of the world’s most epic adventure films with a screening, taking place at selected NuMetro cinemas between 27 October and 5 November. Participating cinemas are Canal Walk, Boardwalk, Ballito, Woodlands, Hyde Park and Emperors Palace.

“BANFF is one of the world’s most prestigious adventure film festivals, and Cape Union Mart prides itself on bringing it to South Africa every year. We encourage the public to book tickets to celebrate the cinematic talent of our fellow South Africans,” Hufkie concludes.
