You can only purchase these items at Takealot during lockdown
Takealot announced that it is open for business as of Monday evening, 30th March 2020.
The company will focus on the sale and delivery of essential goods as authorised and prescribed by the South African Government.
Takealot said in a statement: "Thank you for your patience while we made the necessary changes to our platforms to comply with the Government directives under the national lockdown. These have been really trying times in our business with some very difficult operational decisions having to be made and we truly appreciate your understanding and continued support over this time."
After reviewing the legislation and looking at what other local retailers are offering, Takealot has curated a comprehensive selection of essential items which are now available to purchase on its platform.
It has also put precautionary measures in place to prevent non-essential items from going through the checkout process and will be monitoring this closely in compliance with Government directives.
"To assist in the prevention of panic buying, we have also imposed stock limitations to certain key products and will be restricting customers to no more than 5 of these items per checkout. We will continue to monitor buying behaviour and may expand on these key products as the need arises," said Takealot.
"We are ensuring compliance with the recent price gouging legislation and will ensure that our marketplace sellers also comply. Given the nature of the platform, our seller compliance will be retrospective."
In addition to this, the company will not be offering collections or drop-offs at any of our Takealot Pickup Points during this time, including theirCape Town Warehouse, and it won’t be accepting Cash on Delivery payments in support of our Contactless Delivery process.
"In our ongoing commitment to the safety of our staff, partners, drivers and customers, we will continue to enforce the preventative hygiene safety measures, guided by international best practice and the World Health Organisation (WHO) for all deliveries," said Takealot.
