Shoprite lends helping hand to old age home
Shoprite recently answered the call for help from the Wisani Old Age Home and Hospice in Hammanskraal, donating a R5 000 voucher so that their food and cleaning supplies could be replenished.
The home’s plight came to the supermarket chain’s attention following an article in Pretoria North Rekord (3 June) and Shoprite immediately reached out to offer assistance. Some 43 residents all over the age of 60 years occupy the home, which was hard-hit when donations dried up due to the national lockdown.
“I am overwhelmed and deeply grateful for Shoprite’s generosity. It is very encouraging to know there are businesses like Shoprite, who still care enough to give to our elderly,” says Sophy Bilankulu, founder of Wisani Old Age Home and Hospice.
Residents are still in need of warm clothes and toiletries and any assistance is welcome.
“We will take donations of any kind. We all have a duty to look after the elderly in our communities because it's through their sacrifice and hard work that many of us are where we are today,” adds Bilankulu.
