REVIEW: The Samsung A22 offers you great features for the most affordable pricing
Samsung this year launched the Galaxy A22, which was the latest offering in its mid-range line of Galaxy A smartphones.
The phone is a successor to the Galaxy A21 and has an impressive display, a versatile camera that is affordable but still offers you quality features.
We at Guzzle were given the opportunity to review the device and we were given it in a mint colour.
The Samsung Galaxy A22 comes equipped with a quad-camera that features OIS (Optical Image Stabilization), which stabilizes the camera, and is currently the only phone that has OIS on this budget segment. The OIS really does work and pictures come out clean and crisp.
The camera was the standout feature of the phone for me because the set-up of the quad-lens camera was just good which includes a 48MP main camera with f/1.8, (wide), PDAF and OIS.
The supporting cameras include an 8MP (f/2.2, 123?) ultrawide lens and two 2MP lenses – one for macro and one for depth.
The main 48MP camera produces great visuals that are bright and bold, however, when zoomed in, the quality does drop slightly.
The video quality on the device was not too bad as it can record at a maximum of Full-HD resolution and 30 fps.
The A22 comes in four different colour options. This includes Black, White, Mint and Violet and it features a 6.4” screen with a Super AMOLED panel that really stood out for me. It was very smooth and the colours popped.
It also has a 90Hz refresh rate, 84.3% screen-to-body ratio. However, where it lags compared to other top-end devices is that it only has a 720×1,600px resolution.
The device is powered by a 5000mAh battery which did give me a full day's worth of usage but it would get over-heated whenever I played games with it for just over 20 minutes.
It also featured the Mediatek Helio G80 which is an Octo-core CPU, which has x2 2.0GHz Cortex-A75 and x6 1.8GHz Cortex-A55 CPUs.
In terms of capacity, the unit I received had 64GB internal storage with 4GB RAM, which was enough storage space for me but the A22 is available in three variants, with the highest option being the 128GB and 6GB RAM model.
The device runs on One UI software and it did;t I've me any issues. The menu was easy to navigate and multi-tasking on the device was easygoing, so it was a good experience to use.
Even when running multiple tabs on Chrome, viewing HD videos on YouTube and using social media it didn't slow down the device.
In conclusion, the device is worth the price tag and its camera is much better than many others at this price point.
The price tag of the device sits at a comfortable R3,999 but it doesn’t cut any corners. The brand attempts to deliver on features across the board to give you the best set of options available when making your purchase.
