Prada closes its store in Standton

Prada announced on social media that it will be permanently closing down its one and only store in South Africa located along Sandton City Shopping Centre's Diamond Walk.

Opened in 2015, the flagship was the only Prada store in the country, and one of only a handful on the African continent.

A spokesperson stated that the store was designed by architect Roberto Baciocchi and covered a total area of 800 square metres and housed the women’s and men’s ready to wear, leather goods, accessories and footwear collections.

"A white canvas curtain, placed behind the shop windows, enhances the sophisticated atmosphere and a series of windows, lightboxes and entrances are inserted into black marble volumes, that makes the set even more elegant," said the spokesperson.

In an announcement posted on Twitter, The Prada Group stated, "We are writing to inform you that the Prada store at Johannesburg Sandton Mall is now permanently closed."

It directed customers to the Prada website and social media channels for "inspiration" and welcomed them to Prada stores around the world.
