Apple adds new features for the Apple Watch
CAPE TOWN - Apple at its Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2019, launched new features for the Apple Watch with WatchOS 6.
The biggest feature that the company added was the App Store will have its own native app for the Watch.
Apple said: “Users can easily install third-party apps, search for apps using Siri, dictation or Scribble and view app product pages designed for the watch screen right from the wrist."
However, Apple noted that developers would need to build Apple Watch-only apps, created to work independently on Apple Watch without an iOS app.
The company also announced new apps set to debut such as the Noise app, Trends for Health and Cycle Tracking for women.
The Noise app aims to teach wearers how noisy environments can cause harm.
Apple said: “As the sound levels change, the app’s decibel meter moves in real time. The watch can send a notification if the decibel level reaches 90 decibels."
The Cycle Tracking allows wearers to “log important information related to their menstrual cycles and see predicted timing for their next period and fertile window using the convenience of Apple Watch.
The company also added a trends tab in the iOS Health app that will allow users to see their long-term fitness behaviour.
Other new features to be added include Voice Memos, direct audiobook listening from the Watch, a new Calculator that will add a tip and bill splitting features.
The company stated that the Watch OS 6 update is set to be available to all Apple Watches from Q3 2019.
