A new omni-channel retail store called Egg launches in Cape Town

Old Mutual Property and retail entrepreneurs Paul Simon, Founder of Young Designers Emporium (YDE), and Arie Fabian of the Fabiani brand, have announced a collaboration to launch a new multi-brand omnichannel retail store in South Africa, called Egg.

Located at Cavendish Square in Claremont, the 3 800m² store previously known as the location of  Edgars features multiple brands of 250 that are local and international in a wide range of categories such as Fashion, skincare, haircare, sneakers, food, accessories and more.

Simon told the publication PropertyWheel, that the Egg concept store appeals to the newer generation of consumers.

“EGG is appealing to a new generation of consumer that is seeking an all-inclusive entertainment, locally sources, learning and lifestyle fulfilment experience from a trip to the mall,” Simon told PropertyWheel.

He added that the store has a multidimensional shopping experience format that combines retail, e-commerce and an interactive consumer app.

"Egg is reimagining retail with a unique, omnichannel experience that collaborates, co-creates and co-evolves," the brand said in a statement.

Its approach is described as 'digital-first, celebrated in the physical', and promises to combine a world-class in-store shopping experience with an innovative e-commerce platform and an interactive consumer app.

Here are a few stores and brands you will find at Egg – Swiitch Beauty, Tshepo Jeans, Selfi, Honest Chocolate and Unframed Ice Cream – are small businesses led by talented local creators.

The store will also be the first retailer in South Africa to be stocking Off White, a brand made by the famous Virgil Abloh.

The brand noted that it has further plans to launch three more stores at the Zone @ Rosebank and Bedford centres in Johannesburg as well as Gateway Mall in Durban.
