0% deposit and 6 months to pay – Game updates lay-by terms

As of September 2022, Game has taken the decision to extend its lay-by terms, as South African consumers face stretched budgets, interest rate hikes and high inflation.

Game customers will not be required to pay a deposit, but they will have six months to pay off their goods – this is a marked difference from the 10% deposit and three-month payment period previously offered.

Katherine Madley, Vice President of Marketing at Game, explains that this change has been made with the Game customer in mind.

“Our ongoing research shows that our customer continues to battle against rising costs, inflation and interest rates. Despite this, there are products that they need and want to improve the quality of their lives. As a responsible retailer, we have decided to make the terms more cost-effective for our customers, so that customers can get what they are looking for such as washing machines and furniture," said Madley.

Buying products on lay-by gives the consumer the opportunity to make a purchase without paying interest – guaranteeing the customer pays a fixed, low price for the item. Madley notes that the most popular items bought at Game on lay-by include portable speaker systems, ovens, and TV decoders.

“Many of our customers are first-time homeowners, for example, who need these items to make their homes complete. Being able to purchase these items on lay-by and pay them off over a six-month or less period gives them the opportunity to purchase these items on their own terms to complete their homes and improve their lives,” said Madley.

Game offers lay-by purchases in all 116 stores across the country.
