Xbox reveals SA pricing for its Series X and Series S next gen consoles

Xbox South Africa has officially announced  on its social media platforms that it will launch both of its new consoles – the Xbox Series S and the Xbox Series X – on the 10th of November in South Africa.

It also revealed that pre-orders for both of these consoles will open on 22 September.

Xbox South Africa also announced the official recommended retail price for both of the new Xbox consoles:

  • Xbox Series S – R6,999
  • Xbox Series X – R11,999

What will you be getting for these prices?

The Xbox S Series

The Xbox Series S is not only the affordable console option but is also small in size sitting at 275mm (10.8 inches) tall, 151mm (5.9 inches) deep, and 63.5mm (2.5 inches) wide in a vertical position.

The console will reportedly only offer 7.5GB usable memory as opposed to the 13.5GB of the Series X, and unlike the Series X, the Xbox Series S will not be able to play the latest games in 4K with high frame rates.

The Xbox Series S has been built to play games at 1440p at 60 frames per second with support for up to 120fps.

The console will also features inferior graphics performance to the Series X – 4TFLOPS compared to 12TFLOPS of the Series X.

The Xbox X

The Series X is the bigger and more powerful console on paper featuring 12.15 teraflops (TFLOPS) of GPU power.

The Series X measures 30.1 x 15.1 x 15.1cm compared to the Xbox One X’s 6 x 30 x 24cm. Its weight is 4.45kg

The Series X's eight-core 3.6GHz Custom AMD Zen 2 chip should improve every aspect of how games run.

The Series X also boasts variable rate shading and hardware-accelerated DirectX raytracing, which should allow for better graphics.

Microsoft has confirmed that the Xbox Series X won't have HDMI input nor an optical digital out.

The 'X' is powered by a 52CU (compute unit) RDNA GPU running at 1.825GHz and The Xbox Series X can do full-fat 4K gaming at 60fps.

Xbox All Access

Microsoft also announced that its Xbox All Access monthly payment product will be available in 12 countries and will include a next-generation Xbox as well as 24 months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.

Xbox All Access will cost $24.99 per month for the Xbox Series S, and $34.99 per month for the Xbox Series X.

This service will not be available in South Africa this year, but Microsoft said more countries will get access to the service in 2021.
