Playstation 5 consoles will only be available to purchase online on launch day

Sony, the creators of PlayStation consoles announced that its latest console which is the PlayStation 5 will only be available to buy online on its launch day.

According to the company, the reason behind this decision is due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Sony stated that it wants to prevent long queues and the tradition of customers camping outside stores.

The console will launch on 12 November in initial markets and in South Africa, it will launch on the19 November.

However, it seems that the online-only launch day decision applies to all markets.

“No units will be available in-store for purchase on launch day (November 12 or November 19, depending on your region) – please don’t plan on camping out or lining up at your local retailer on launch day in hopes of finding a PS5 console for purchase,”  said Sid Shuman, Senior Director of Sony Interactive Entertainment Content Communications in a statement.

“Be safe, stay home, and place your order online.”

Shuman states that those who have pre-ordered the device for collection will still be able to do this.

He adds that customers will need to do so via a designated collection appointment and confirm details for collection with their local retailer.
