Microsoft launches a new HoloLens 2 developer edition

CAPE TOWN – Microsoft on Thursday announced the developer edition of the company’s HoloLens 2 headset. 

The company has yet to give an official availability date for the device, as it only stated that it will be available “later this year.” 

The HoloLens 2 will come in a kit form that will include the HoloLens 2 hardware, Azure credits with free trials of Unity Pro and Unity PiXYZ Plugin for CAD data. 

The kit will also include a carrying case, Overhead strap, Microfiber cloth, Charger and  USB-C cable. 

According to Microsoft, the developer kit will be priced at $3,500 and the original commercial pricing of the HoloLens was $5,000. 

The company also mentioned that the HoloLens 2 will support  Unreal Engine 4  and will be available for developers to start using by the end of May.

This will allow developers to use and create apps that include photo-realistic renders for use in manufacturing, product design, architecture, and more.
