Coca-Cola shuts down manufacturing plant in Gauteng due to employee testing positive for Covid-19

Coca-Cola has become the next company to get hit by Covid 19 as an employee tested positive for the virus which resulted in the company shutting down one of its biggest manufacturing plants in Gauteng.

This is according to a report by IOL, which stated that an internal memo was sent to employees at the Coca-Cola’s Devland manufacturing plant on Monday, a worker with the respiratory disease was on the site on Sunday.

This image of the memo has been doing its rounds on Twitter and Coca-Cola as responded to tweets stating the following, "Hi, CCBSA can confirm that a positive case of COVID-19 was reported at its Devland manufacturing plant on 12 April. The manufacturing site has been shut down from 12 – 15 April and employees have been asked to stay at home for the duration."

Managing director Velaphi Ratshefola said: "We have already initiated a tracing process to identify all employees who may have been in contact with the positive colleague, these employees will undergo testing."

“We have increased rigid health and safety protocols as well as awareness to ensure the well-being of all within our operations. Upon entering our sites, all employees and visitors have their temperature taken and undergo a short questionnaire. Individuals displaying flu-like symptoms or with a temperature over 37.5C are not allowed entry to our sites."

The plant has 222 employees. Coca Cola currently has 14 plants operating nationally.
