In April 1977 KwaZulu Cash & Carry was established, commencing operations as a conventional wholesaler. They primarily focused on selling essential commodities such as maize meal, rice, samp and beans but by the late 1970s KwaZulu Cash & Carry extended their offering and re-positioned themselves as a ‘complete retailer.’ As a ‘complete retailer’ they began supplying the informal trader, the bulk consumer as well as the retail consumer with everyday products of the highest quality at the most affordable prices.
The discount retailer grew by leaps and bounds, and by 1988 the company was bought by a group of investors, relaunching the brand under the new name of Boxer Cash & Carry. As the chain grew even more and extended throughout SA, by 1997 a further upgrade to the CI was imminent, changing their name to Boxer Superstores.
Today Boxer Superstores continue to prosper and are constantly expanding in areas where the company knows it can serve the needs of the community. They are forever looking for new ways to improve their customer service and expanded their already massive product range.
